commonplot is a reading and research tool. Read curated articles, papers, videos, and posts in Discover, save what matters, collect it in a notebook, and ask AI to answer questions, write documents, or make audio overviews from those sources.

It is more than a read-later list and more than an AI chat. The point of commonplot is that what you read and save stays useful for your next research or writing project.

You can browse Discover without signing in. Sign in to save content, create notebooks, use AI, and write documents.

## Core concepts [#core-concepts]

| Resource | An article, paper, video, post, PDF, or image | Anything you want to read, keep, or give to AI |
| Saved resources | Everything you save, listed on your profile | Read later and long-term saving |
| Notebook | A topic or research project holding resources, documents, and AI chats | When you research, organize, or produce something about one topic |
| Document | Long-form writing by you or AI inside a notebook | Research notes, reports, articles |
| Library | PDFs and images you upload, generated audio, and chat attachments | Managing files and storage |

A notebook can be public or private. Public notebooks appear on your profile, which suits a shared reading list. Private notebooks are visible only to you, which suits work in progress.
