Troubleshooting

Fix common commonplot problems: resources stuck processing, pages that can't be fetched, AI not seeing new sources, AI usage running out, failed uploads, and documents that won't share.

A resource stays in progress

Links and files are processed in the background, usually within a minute; PDFs and long videos can take longer. Close the dialog and keep working; check Imports for the status.

"Couldn't get this page's content"

commonplot couldn't read the page. Common causes:

  • The site requires sign-in or a paid subscription.
  • The site blocks automated access.
  • The site is temporarily down.

Choose Retry in Imports later. If it's a PDF or a downloadable article, you can upload the file instead.

"Ready to read · Translation failed"

The original is readable; only the translation didn't finish. Translate again from the reader. If your AI usage has run out, wait for the next reset.

AI can't see a source I just added

  1. Check that Imports shows Ready to read for it.
  2. Check that you selected it under Add context.
  3. On the AI Chat page, open the notebook first; notebook resources and documents can only be added from inside a notebook.

AI usage ran out

Open Settings → Plan & usage for the percentage used and the reset date. Wait for the reset or upgrade to Pro; your saved content stays. A busy-model or too-many-messages notice is a temporary limit; try again shortly.

A file won't upload

Check that:

  • It's a PDF or a PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP, or HEIC image.
  • It's 10 MB or smaller.
  • You have storage left (500 MB on Free, 25 GB on Pro).
  • You haven't reached today's upload limit (20 on Free, 200 on Pro).

I can't create another notebook

The Free plan allows up to 30 notebooks. Delete notebooks you no longer need, or upgrade to Pro.

A document won't share

  • Set a username in Settings → Profile first.
  • If commonplot says the username is reserved for an app route, choose another.
  • Before publishing, a document needs at least 80 characters, a specific title, valid links and images, and its latest changes saved.

A document shows "Couldn't save" or offline

Offline changes sync when you reconnect; keep the tab open. If saving keeps failing, use Download a copy to keep your work, then reload the page.

I can't delete a file

A file used in a document can't be deleted. Remove the image from that document, wait for it to save, then delete the file in Library.

Public content disappeared

The owner may have:

  • Set the document back to Only you
  • Made the notebook private
  • Deleted the content or their account
